Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
