Torrential Downpours Worsen Conditions for Evacuated Palestinians in Gaza, Officials Caution

Heavy precipitation over the last seven days have compounded the precarious circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted residents in the Gaza Strip, as reported by humanitarian agencies.

"Terrible" Weather Poses Serious Threats

A representative described the weather overnight as "terrible", with precipitation so severe that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the ground.

"The recent weather was exceptionally horrendous for the families. The storms were so strong... And the winds were so powerful," stated the representative.

Officials express significant concern that minors living in temporary structures in wet garments will succumb to hypothermia and other illnesses.

Casualties and Significant Destruction

Medical officials have reported that one baby has passed away from the cold and no fewer than 11 other people have died in building collapses due to the severe weather.

Additional accounts put a higher fatality count. Authorities reported that numerous structures had collapsed completely and dozens had collapsed partially.

Assistance Operations Seen as Insufficient

Organizations have stepped up deliveries of tents, blankets and garments following the halt in hostilities began, but they have said there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.

"Agencies are operating tirelessly to deliver that aid and to hand it out, but the size of the necessities is so enormous that we continue to see a great number of people and children who are really struggling nightly," cautioned one spokesperson.

Ongoing Issues and Agreement Terms

The subsequent part of the truce encompasses arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the withdrawal of troops, and other provisions.

Relief organizations have stressed the need for "greater and continuous relief to address urgent and long-term requirements."
